Since Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history, Jonathan Owens recently claimed to be "the catch" in their relationship. Her supporters don't have it.

In a lengthy conversation that included a discussion of how the two athletes met, Owens, 28, and Biles, 26, both made an appearance on The Pivot podcast, which is hosted

The Green Bay Packers safety revealed to the hosts in a Tuesday audio episode that he met Biles on the dating app Raya.

Owens claimed he had been busy when questioned about how he could have missed the multi-Olympic gold medallist.

"We didn't have NBC when I was in college and she won the Olympics. We are in a camp and didn't have access to Olympic networks. Late July or early August is when we're in camp," he remarked. "I guess I'm not listening."Let me see who this is," is how I feel. I was curious because I've never really paid attention to gymnastics."

People note that the two eventually got married in Houston in April 2023 after Simon Biles messaged him on the app.

Later, Clark asked Owens, "So you were really the catch?"

Owens answered, "I always say the men are the catch."

The internet was divided by Owens' answer, particularly since the video was released the same week that Biles won the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year award for a record-tying third time.

One TikToker commented, "Simone Biles' husband is a walking red flag."

"This unidentified man attempted to degrade his spouse, Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, while she was sitting there. Another person said, "Divorce babes, divorce," in Adele's words.

Even though Simon Biles did not participate in the 2012 Games, one X user searched through Owens' entire history to find a tweet demonstrating his at least passing familiarity with the sport.

On the down low, I'm praying that when they're performing gymnastics, the individuals from other countries fall.

To be fair, Owens is not the only person who ends up getting married or dating someone who at the time they had no idea was famous.

Before going on a date, Luis Felber, Lena Dunham's husband, admitted, he had to Google her. Because David Harbour had shared a photo of himself dressed as Jim Hopper on social media, singer Lily Allen just assumed that the actor and star of "Stranger Things"

According to Owens' Instagram post on Friday, he appears to be "unbothered" by the criticism of his remarks, despite the negative response he has received online.

When Business Insider contacted Owens over the criticism, they did not receive a response right away.
